Part 1
The following is a fictional account of a spiritual
awakening with a factual basis. This
five part series is offered to promote and encourage the practices of the World
Mind Society, making the reader aware of some of the potentials involved in this
system.
A
dusty traveler of faded robes, possessing little else but reed thongs and the
distant, wide eyed look of many earnest seekers, one day came upon a spectacle
that would change his life. The
barren hill upon which he stood lead a drunken, weaving path down a rocky slope,
to a grassy expanse at its base. Many
hundreds of people were gathered there. Most
had seated themselves around a pinnacle of large boulders spanning 60 feet
across at their crest, which formed a natural speaking platform.
A few danced and whirled in traditional song in the distance, while the
majority sat silently in contemplation. Upon
approaching gray, ancient boulders with weary steps,
his gaze rested with hopeful expectation upon a motionless figure in
white seated upon them. He had heard that this was the place frequented by the
foremost adept of a famous Master. It
was said that He spoke of the nature of Truth, and performed healings of those
who sought aid.
Some twenty feet above among small gray rocks, only
the silent hood of a cloak was visible. Suddenly, as the seeker approached near this white robed one,
looking up at his calm presence with expectation, a small gong was sounded.
Flutes and drums grew silent, and dancers immediately stopped wherever
they stood as though they were one body suddenly brought to a halt.
All voices went mute, and the crowd turned in unison with an expression
of reverence. Surely this is the
one I seek the pilgrim thought. Upon
realizing he was the only one standing so close to the rocks,
the seeker quickly began to lie prone, face down in fine dust and grass
there, as a gesture of respect. Yet
in the midst of doing so, he was compelled to take one last look at the robed
figure above. To his surprise, eyes
that seemed to glow with an inner radiance were focused directly upon him.
A pearl white hood was pulled back to reveal a noble countenance of jet
black hair, a short beard and
streaks of gray at the temples. Saying
not a word, the figure gestured to the seeker to simply sit where he was.
Then turning to the assembled throng he spoke thus;
"Friends and devoted seekers, I speak today on
behalf of my Master, and my Master’s Master.
It is He whom you may know quite well, for many have visited his ashrams
throughout this land to receive gifts of wisdom.
At this time however, my Master is in seclusion, and will remain so in
his advanced age. I come among you to carry forth the Word, and to attempt in
some small measure to carry on his work as well.
Know then that the work of my Master is not the path of his own creation.
It is one which has prevailed since the beginning of time, in the hearts
and minds of all earnest seekers of Truth.
For within the temple of Truth resides the Teacher of Teachers, and the
Master of Masters. From this
One Source, even the Avatars and
Gods receive their instruction. None
are higher than That which prevails throughout all of space and time. The Truth that sustains the bodies wherein you now dwell,
which likewise empowers the souls which inhabit them, is the same essence from
which both the seen and unseen draw strength.
All must find their way through this One Means.
This is what is meant by the saying "All paths lead to God",
for all paths are of God, leading inevitably back to God;
to Brahman that is the all-encompasser.
Embrace you that which is eternal and never fails, nor which ever finds
exception to Its laws. Through this reap rewards of such sweetness, that they
find no adequate comparison with the creations of man.
Find the Truth that resides within, just as it resides in all things, and
in so doing realize the deep purposes of your own existence.
Doubt not that your purposes in Truth are deep.
In the depth of God were you born, and in the depth of God will you
physically die, and yet live on. The
wise, who upon realizing this, find the sweetest path of life by seeking none
else while still in a physical body. Look
you thus with the inner eye, upon the depth of God that is existence.
Guide the two outer eyes away from the sufferings that are the creations
of man, to the true glory of life in God that is your spiritual inheritance.
Look well with the three eyes made one without bias, for there are
treasures to be perceived in our own souls that exceed those of all the kings of
kings who have ever lived, or ever will live.
Claim these treasures as your own, these aspects of Truth, for indeed
they are the birthright of all conscious beings alike."
The Adept continued speaking after only a slight
pause; "The inner eye of the
soul Sees as it does my friends, through
the instrument of your current body. The essence of the soul forgets not that it is a Spark of the
Fire of God. Through this Spark it
is the soul which Sees with precision into the nature of Truth, more so than the
outer two, which are most often fixated upon the material world.
The soul is enabled to do this because the Spark that illuminates the
inner world, is the same light which illuminates all of creation.
The soul is our immediate source of connection to the All-Pervading, and
therefore to all Wisdom. To know
thyself is to know one’s true nature as soul.
To know soul is to know Consciousness, the All-Pervading.
To know soul is in turn to know God, and all that is of both the manifest
and unmanifest. Identify yourselves
with Consciousness, and realize the Infinite that is Self and All".
The seeker looked up from a deeply contemplative,
unfocused gaze at the rock face before him, to realize that the large crowd of
some five or six hundred were now pressed close.
They encircled the boulders as closely as possible to hear the message
given. Their complete silence he
thought, was due to the Adept’s profound message.
After a silent pause he realized it was also because of a commanding
spiritual presence, that left no doubt in the mind of the listener, as to the
embodiment of that very message. A
rustle of fabric from above focused the attention of the throng into a strong
atmosphere of anticipation. The
Adept, standing upright with arms extended forward and palms revealed, spoke
again;
"What I do next", he said, "I do in
the manner of my Master, and his Master before him.
This is in accord with the unbroken chain of a lineage of teachings,
which extends beyond written memory. Know
that what I now do is a manifestation of the soul, according to the Will of that
Master of Masters of all ages and places, and which you as embodied souls may
likewise do". Having said
this, the Adept looked up into a cloudless sky full of heat, and chanted
"OM MANE PADME OM" in lingering,
clear, intonations of one
syllable after another. Raised
hands adjoined over his head as in prayer.
Many began to see a circle of light forming around his head, others over
his entire body. Some saw the many
colors of the spectrum as in that of a rainbow, extending outward through the
crowd and beyond by several miles, muffling their cries of delight in an attempt
to remain respectful. When the
intonation ended, the Adept again extended his arms straight forward from the
chest with palms upturned and eyes closed, slowly rotating his body 360 degrees.
As if the rocks below had themselves been uplifted, there began to
radiate from the entire area a strong current of love, one that seemed to rise
up from the Earth itself. It swept
through the crowd like a fresh breeze after a long awaited summer rain.
An almost imperceptible motion of bodies stirred the gathered mass, as
though each were a blade of grass blown to and fro in unison. When only a few
minutes of this had passed, many people knelt or dropped on the ground.
This was not immediately out of reverence, but a dizzy exaltation brought
about by currents of Energy now passing through them.
A great many exclaimed the various names of God, promising fidelity in
service. Many called upon the names
of Saints after prostrating themselves on the ground. Around and around the Adept turned, now with directed palms
and eyes wide open, looking into the faces of those few who still watched him.
He met every gaze with careful focus, leaving no doubt in the onlooker
that every detail of heart and soul were perceived.
The dusty and tattered seeker was one of these, who stared with rapt awe
at the wonder of the moment.
The seeker thought to himself that in these many
years of travel, the privilege of
learning the wisdom of many Masters and Saints had been his.
The presence of Realized Ones was a sacred experience he had learned to
accept as a regular facet of the spiritual landscape.
His intention now was as always to
learn and embody, to feel and receive blessings, so that someday enlightenment
would come. Despite his awe at the feelings of bliss present, reminding
him of the presence found in sacred groves at the onset of spring, the seeker
was never the less determined to witness every aspect of this demonstration.
He hoped to observe subtle secrets, in order to understand how he himself
might one day accomplish such feats.
Unconsciously the seeker had raised his hands,
joining them overhead in reaction to the sweetness of presence in the air.
It traveled in flashes as a strong current of Energy throughout his body.
After stating inwardly the desire to understand this sensation, it
immediately became amplified. These
feelings summoned the realization that this same experience was in fact
that found in Nature, and in the company of the Holy.
The perceptions of spiritual places and persons over the years began to
take on a unity the seeker had not before realized.
Then insight took the place of awe.
Sacred groves, Temples and Saints flashed one after another before his
mind’s eye. They formed a
continuity of feeling that was clearly related, as though they were the deep
roots of a single tree. Then the
image of a robed teacher seated in a garden, instructing many devotees appeared
to him. To his surprise, the teacher was himself, as a possible
portent of things to come. He saw
the Truth that all people are of God, and that all of them experienced a usually
unnoticed communality with each other.
Upon having these realizations, the seeker
experienced deep appreciation for all teachers of Truth, especially for the one
before him now. Just then, the
Adept completed another full rotation at the boulder’s crest.
Piercing eyes came to look within those of the seekers'.
Immediately the two were united in a common knowingness.
Not only did the Adept perceive instantly the seeker’s realization, but
that the seeker in turn knew he was thus perceived.
A smile of joy in the confirmation of all the years of effort spent in
search and meditation crossed the seeker’s face, as he realized that he had
found his true Master at last. Pausing
for a moment in this connection, of two souls having met on the roadway of the
eyes, the Adept then sat again in meditational repose.
Now a physical wind stirred the large throng, and
what felt like either an hour or a single minute passed without notice.
None stirred except one white robed man carrying a small brass gong.
As he passed through the gathering many sat up from their prone inner
revels to see what would happen next. The
robed man, apparently a longtime student of the Adept, reached the center of
this tree lined clearing near the boulders. He struck the gong three times,
gaining the full attention of the assembly, before the talk began anew.
"It is in the way of the lineage of teachers of
which I am a part", began the Adept, "to demonstrate knowledge
conveyed in a manner which can be experienced as well as understood.
Just as it is my Master’s wish that all those instructed would one day
earn the responsible position of Master, so too is this my wish for you, dear
seekers of Truth.
In demonstration it is hoped that the lessons of discourses given be made
clear, if not in content, then certainly in degree of importance.
This demonstration of certain common Laws of Nature has been my privilege
to in some part reveal, as an opportunity for further discussion".
Evident was the considerable interest of many eyes turned upward to the
robed one, who had again pulled a gleaming hood over a focused brow.
Part 2
The Adept continued by saying, "Of this lineage
there are no secrets withheld, for it is our view that when a question is
earnestly asked, that the asking itself implies a readiness to receive
answers. This is true here
today, as it is for ascetics in
caves and forest groves, as well as for the disciples in ashrams of my
Master’s Way. Your presence here
is testimony to a strong spiritual motivation.
Your sacrifices in undertaking travel to this secluded place do not go
unnoticed. Thus, as much will be
revealed to you as you wish to know, and of which I am capable of both
demonstration and discourse. It
cannot be overemphasized that what you have experienced here today, in no way
represents any special ability on my part, or that of the lineage of teachings
to which I belong. These events
today are an aspect of Natural Laws which any person may, who so desires, begin
to embody and thus perform.
The
material world which you see before you is but one of the innumerable houses of
God, built upon a foundation of intelligent design.
It is intelligent because it is of progressive purpose. It is wise because its purpose is the expansion of its own
Self Awareness, within all created forms. It
is progressive because it becomes even more wise and intelligent over time.
In so doing It builds even greater houses than before.
This house of God has great strength, as do we who are a part of its
design, one which like any other well built structure, is founded upon sound
principles and laws. The house of
life is flexible, rebuilding itself
as needed. Because man is of the
same design he too is flexible, possessing
intelligence and wisdom along with the inner strength to progress. Thus we are reflections of God the Planner, for we plan as
well. We are reflections of God the
Builder, for we have minds that focus and which are capable of recreating the
world. It is also true that we
reflect God the Knower, because as a result of our planning, building and inner
focus, we too gain not only knowledge, but knowledge of what it is to Know.
So it is that to know is to be human.
To know that we know, is to
follow the path of Truth that leads to self Mastery.
We live not only in the house of God, we are also of
that house. We are as pillars upon
which the roof of heaven rests. Since
the body of God is Itself Knowingness, and we are of that body, we too possess
Knowingness. In this Truth the
Design and the Designer are One. We
are part of a Mind that shapes matter into its own images and means. The image
of the Divine, as well as Divine means are ours to know. Consciousness the all-pervading infiltrates our being.
It is the wellspring of inspiration from which the seeker, finding
Awareness itself, exclaims; 'I AM
THAT'. Indeed we are all THAT, and
in realizing this, find realization itself.
The Truth of existence that God is everywhere present becomes self
evident.
The universe is Consciousness, and so are we.
In the knowing of the self this becomes clear.
Thus to explore ourselves is to explore the house of God, and to explore
the house of God, is to explore ourselves.
In meditation it is observed that the very process of knowing the self,
is that state of being where the knower becomes the subject of focus, and in so
doing becomes the known as well. When
that indwelling presence of Awareness within focuses on the qualities of its own
focusing, it then Sees its own nature. This
is the basis for enlightenment.
When we as conscious beings realize what it is to be
conscious, it is then that the process of spiritual unfoldment takes an active
role in living. It is then that the
wings of the soul begin to lift this worldly task that is otherwise a burden, to
high spiritual realms. It is then
we begin to see the importance of love and clarity in the world.
These insights are important because they enable the spirit to fully
guide matter, for soul to empower body and mind.
It is Spirit which guides this world and the next, not matter or flesh.
Spirit, God, Consciousness, Brahman, are all the names of this same
guiding Force. It is to this Force
we must return, to live as enlightened beings.
Enlightenment is self realization to a certain
minimum degree. That degree is self
realized when a given mind finds its true nature in Consciousness itself,
calling this home. Both the inner
and outer focus become one and the same within it.
This is the identification of the personality with the soul, rather than
the past. Personality, ego and identification with material things,
fade away to be replaced with an identification with the eternal.
The self is then viewed as Spirit, not memory or thought.
"I AM THAT" is exclaimed by the self while in conscious unity
with the universe. Further
realized, the self exclaims, "I AM THAT I AM", in permanent
identification with Consciousness itself.
A person so identified has access to knowledge of an
unlimited scope. As a question is
asked, the received answer is already forthcoming.
For the disciple of spiritual paths, this level of self realization adds
new meaning to the principle, "When the student is ready the Master will
appear". For indeed when the
seeker has identified themselves with soul, with Consciousness that is the true
self, they are then connected without obstacle to a universe that is also
Consciousness. This connection provides answer to all spiritual inquiry, because
of the connectedness of all things. Thus
the student is 'ready' as demonstrated by the fact that the Master of Masters,
which is Truth, is ever
available to supply needed answers.
My friends, the answers to the questions of life all
lie before you. For in essence you
must be your own teachers, as even the greatest of Gurus can only point the way,
not provide self mastery. Self
mastery in Consciousness is a choice of inner focus and self identification,
which you must yourselves make. Only then will you realize the Truth that is the self and the
world in general".
Having spoken thus, the Adept looked down from a gaze
that spanned the horizon, to the many faces below.
For a moment his eyes lingered upon them as if in evaluation of what
might best be further said. Satisfied with the result of the discourse, he arose from a
lotus position atop the rocks, which were by now casting a long shadow,
revealing a greater passage of the day than most had been previously aware.
Climbing down a ladder of braided reeds, he made his way to a large tent.
Its circular frame stood in contrast to the many smaller square shelters
of canvas there. The silent crowd
parted quickly to make way for this spiritual presence of a man, some reaching
out to touch his robe in passing. Following
close behind were two similarly robed men of impressive though not equal
stature, who did not enter within, as did the Adept.
Instead they stood at its entrance and announced that a modest late
afternoon lunch had been prepared, as generously provided by a merchant from the
nearest city some miles to the south. Having
said this they too stepped within, closing the flaps of canvas behind them, as
an unspoken indication that the One therein was for the moment, in repose.
Hours
passed into an evening brightly lit by hundreds of campfires, the air scented by
white jungle flowers made even sweeter by singers and drums. Those who had
traveled far for spiritual cleansing, council and healing were not disappointed,
as groups of five were allowed in the large tent to receive blessings.
The humble seeker, seated before a small fire not far
from the main tent noticed that those who entered and soon departed were in good
spirits, and seemingly greater Energy than before.
He wondered what manner of inner strength or realization made possible
the healing of so many night after night, and the creation of such uplifting
effects, day after day. It was said that the Adept, who was sure to take the
Master’s place some day, traveled almost constantly from location to location
giving discourses and healings, staying no more than a week in any one place.
The seeker imagined himself the devoted servant of this teacher, who
surely could well be considered a Master in his own right.
He wondered what this might entail.
At that very moment the seeker felt compelled to look up from his fire,
and there alone stood a figure in a gray cloak watching him intently.
The figure spoke saying, "The
very first time I entered my Master’s ashram, after eight years of meditation
in the forest, he met with me. This
is an unusual honor for a new student. The
first thing he said was, 'I perceive immediately that you do seek with an
earnest heart and a clear mind, and
so I say to you this. Remember
always that Truth is the highest and most worthy Master to which any seeker may
ever apply’. After a time of
meditating on this I knew it to be true, a fact that also indicated to me that
my Master is of the highest realization. The
Truth that is God, the God that is Truth, is the intelligent reality behind all
possible illusions of the senses or the mind.
Know you then that should you devote yourself to study with me, that your
devotion shall in fact be to the embodiment of Truth, to God and those constant
principles that underlie all of existence. I am not truly the Master, I only point the way with as much
fidelity as I am capable".
The figure paused for a moment and stood by the fire
warming his hands, with a gray hood pulled down to conceal the features within.
Although the seeker could not see his face, he knew this person to be
none other than the Adept, though it was hard to believe.
The seeker asked, "Why do you conceal yourself thus, great one?
And how is it that you give answer to my very thoughts?"
The Adept answered, "From the moment of meeting eyes with you today
while speaking at the rocks, I knew you to be a most earnest seeker of Truth.
Through your eyes I saw into the intention of your soul.
In this we aligned our spirits, my friend.
I saw too that you have many questions you would like to ask of me, and that they should be answered in full.
Thus concealed as I sometimes am, we may converse without
distraction". "Great one,
I am honored", replied the seeker, "I
do have many questions, and would not usually presume upon your time with them.
But in consideration of your words, I am delighted to take the
opportunity". "Let us
walk then, speaking quietly, and see what this conversation may reveal",
the Adept replied.
The
seeker poured a small pitcher of water on what remained of his fire, and walk
they did amidst singers, dancing children, and discussions of the events of the
day in small tents. They walked
under a starry sky in silence, until approaching the perimeter of the clearing,
and stood alone near ancient and silent oaks.
The seeker broke the silence by asking, "Great one, what must one do
in seeking the opportunity to be your student?"
"As I have said", the Adept replied, "the first and
foremost act of the sincere seeker, is to recognize their true Master, the
Master of Masters, which is that of Truth.
If this is not done, then no Master, philosophy, or regimen of practice,
no matter how profound or well informed they may be, will be of any use.
The Truth must be recognized and fully embraced before one can truly
understand Reality, whether one has the advantage of a Master’s counsel or
not". "How does one
accurately perceive the Truth?", asked the seeker.
The Adept said, "Know the Truth first by realizing it is universal,
and without exception applies to all places, all people, and at all times
invariably. Discern untruth as that
which applies only to a specific few, to a given class or period of time.
That which divides into fragments the complete picture of reality, can
only contain limited merit. However,
that which unites into a holistic picture of reality is that which is universal,
and has the greatest merit, as Truth".
Part 3
After
a moment of reflection the seeker responded by asking, "Is it a fact then,
that all distinctions of class, race, caste, nationality, belief, political
affiliation, and other ideas of society which divide people into groups are not
of the Truth?" "This is
so”, the Adept replied. "All
of these distinctions are created by man at the hazard of the welfare of man.
It is in the forgetfulness that we are all of Consciousness alike, that
is the source for every ill in the divided house of humanity, one which must
surely fall again and again, until we return to our common roots.
Such divisions do not exist in Truth, nor are they of any real
importance, other than the fact that they should be noted for their
destructiveness". "How
then can we return to our common roots, and find unity in this divided
world?", asked the seeker.
The Adept turned to face the many fires whose light
flickered on thick, angled branches. His eyes, also lit by an inner fire, a spiritual
determination, were quiet. Speaking
softly the Adept finally made reply, saying, "The many great Saints and
Teachers of all ages have been asked forms of such questions, since before
written history. Always has their
answer been the same, though words and techniques have differed according to the
needs of the time. It can be said
that the suffering of human beings, brought about by their own devices and not
through a lack of capability, is like that of a moth circling a flame. The moth is attracted to the candle not out of need, but out
of fascination with its light and heat. As
it circles closer and closer its wings start to burn, and yet it continues on as
though the courting of death was merely a trivial detail, in the pursuit of
sensation and self indulgence. Only
when the moth burns itself severely enough does it then decide to save itself,
if at all. By then it may be too
injured to fly again, but still it may survive.
Humanity circles around the flames of the senses, of sensation and
stimulation. There is nothing
inherently wrong with these, but because it is easy to make the mistake of
assuming that sensation equates to happiness, there is danger in a sensual
focus. If this focus is not checked
by wisdom, the mind begins to think that stimulation is happiness, or at least a
release from the miseries of an imbalanced lifestyle.
Thus the pursuit of sensual stimulation goes on endlessly.
Only upon looking within do we realize that fulfillment is not to be
found in sensation, for sensation is transitory, and is not the essence of
happiness. The essence of
happiness, of realization, of fulfillment and lasting success, is in the self
knowledge of the Consciousness we already possess.
This same message has been the one provided by all the spiritual figures
of history. Regardless of these
messages however, the majority of humanity like the moth, still circle the
flames of material sensation in fascination.
Like the moth, man still destroys himself by directing his Divine
Energies in futile circles that do not do justice to his actual capability.
To make a fundamental change of this condition, humanity must break the
cycle of stimulation at any cost. This
inner imbalance begins through the wrong focus of seeking sensation rather than
understanding, to start with. Imbalance
creates craving for further stimulation, to ease the discomfort of unnatural
living, which itself creates more imbalance and eventually death.
This state of human affairs must first be recognized for what it is, by
looking within. Through such
practices as meditation, prayer, and moment to moment Awareness, humanity must
see its true identity. This is Consciousness, not the products of thought, emotion
and sensation. Through the
identification with the true self, realize that all that is needed for
fulfillment is already within. In
the clarity that comes from the self identification with Consciousness, Truth is
easily perceived, for it is no longer obscured by artificial desires.
In doing this humanity will again be a united house within the realm of
God and Nature”.
After a brief moment of meditation, the seeker again
spoke inquiring, "How then shall we best understand Consciousness?"
To this the Adept said,
"Know Consciousness as that ever-present Watcher within; that presence
contained in the body, mind and soul which is ever aware.
It is the immediacy of presence within, the focuser, not that which is
focused upon in the world, which has true relevance for self understanding.
Make not the mistake that this watcher, which is an aspect of the true
self, has any identity in thought, image, or emotion, for it is none of these.
Thoughts, images and emotions are the product of Consciousness, thus they
are only what it does, not what it is, just as the carpenter is not the house
built. Meditate upon the Watcher
within, that immediacy of presence that sees through all the senses, and yet is
none of them. Nor is it any of the objects of perception.
The perceiver is not the perceived, and so it is that the wise remain
detached from worldly affairs, even while participating in them.
In meditating upon Consciousness thus, notice every aspect of the watcher
within, not only in what it does, but also for what it is.
In this you will come to know the true self, and obtain all the keys to
the kingdom of God. In knowing the
true self, you will also come to know the Truth of existence as well".
"Great one, how is it that although there are
many who meditate thus, there are but few who attain the realization of which
you speak?", asked the seeker. "This
is so", the Adept replied, “not because there are but few who perceive
the true self, but because after having seen it, do not retain the knowledge
gained by its sight. In meditation
or prayer the true self is often seen, as pure Consciousness itself is not
difficult to see once the habit of continuous thoughts that cloud perception is
stopped, by whatever means. Seeing
the true self within is not difficult because it is the actual faculty in us
that is Seeingness itself. In other
words, it is 'that which looks' or 'that which is aware'.
This true self never goes away, nor can it be destroyed, but it can be
covered over by layers of thought through years of inappropriate focus.
The lifelong habit of the continuous creation of words in the mind, and
their associated images have like a river, a great deal of force behind them. The river of thought is compelling because it is extremely
well known to the mind, having been ingrained there by the words of other people
since the first day of life. Thus
it becomes the cohesive force behind the personality, in fact, it composes the
personality which would not exist without it.
Stopping this river of thought can be difficult because we make it so,
through a repetition of mental words and images. Thus, although many See this pure Awareness within, which is
the creator of thought, they do not make the decision to identify with it, to
adopt it as the prevailing mode of the self, day to day, moment to moment.
It is not through a lack of Seeingness of the Truth, that most seekers
fail to achieve the level of realization they seek.
It is simply that they have not taken responsibility for what it is that
they have seen".
"What can be done to remedy this problem of lack
of responsibility for what is seen?", the seeker asked quietly, as he too
stared into the fires in the distance. "Your questions are very relevant
ones", commented the Adept, "reflecting much correct inner focus.
There is truly very little that can be done directly to remedy this
problem, other than what has always been done by Masters and philosophies
throughout the ages. Self
responsibility in embracing and living the Truth is something each person must
decide to undertake. The Master may
only point the way, because they cannot truly take responsibility for another. To attempt to do so is folly, and only creates dependency in
others, who rely on the Master as one leans on a crutch when crippled.
In doing so, they become less able to take the necessary spiritual steps
into the landscape that is Consciousness. This
is why those who attempt to teach such as I, give discourse and demonstration,
not to provide enlightenment for others for this is futile, but to educate and
inspire. In this, those who engage in spiritual practice may realize
from their own experiences of life, through right inner focus, the deepest
possible lessons to be learned. They
may then likewise embody those lessons with zeal.
It is not so much the knowledge imparted by a teacher that is important,
as knowledge is directly available to all through Consciousness.
It is the teacher’s personal example, their ability to inspire students
as to the importance of right inner focus, that is the mark of an excellent
Guru. The true teacher is one who
aims at all students becoming themselves teachers, and examples of Truth.
Thus, right emphasis enables learning even more than does right
knowledge".
Seeker and Adept sat together for some time in
silence, and soon most of the fires of the camp were extinguished, leaving only
the light of distant suns, and a half moon as the inheritors of the night.
"Let us begin our walk back for the night now", said the Adept,
"and perhaps resume our discussion tomorrow, after the midday discourse. In answer to your question as to what one may do to become my
student, I trust that the answer to this has become apparent in what we have
spoken of tonight. For any disciple
of mine is actually a disciple of Truth, and in turn I am their student as well.
Those who embrace Truth, and who take responsibility for the fact of the
true self, are all implicitly the same servants of the cause of Consciousness,
of God. They recognize each other whenever their eyes meet.
It is the brotherhood and sisterhood of Truth to which all people belong,
whether or not they be called disciple, seeker, adept, Master,
Avatar or beggar. All
compose the body of God and in Truth, all act as one in ultimate purpose.
If you see legitimate reasons as to how this purpose may be best served
by studying with me, then so be it. Be
ever certain though, you remember who the true Master is".
The seeker listened carefully to these words and
nodded understanding. In reply he
said " I am in your debt for your words of wisdom.
My thanks". To this the Adept said, "No thanks are necessary, just
remain true. Remember your own
lessons. You are accepted here for
as long as you think necessary". The
two had crossed the encampment in what felt like only a few seconds to the
seeker, approaching now the tent which was the focus of so many hundreds.
The Adept gave a slight bow with hands folded, to which the seeker
reciprocated with great affection, and then entered canvas flaps without a
sound. The seeker made his way to
his own bed of grasses, weaving imperceptibly in a dizziness born of revelation
and true delight. This day had
indeed been a crowning glory to years spent in a humble pilgrim’s life of
contemplation. Life and God are
indeed good he thought to himself, while drifting off to sleep.
The following day revealed a light rain during the
healings performed in the morning. By
noon the clouds had parted, and a strong midday heat which no one seemed to
notice, accompanied the afternoon discourse.
Almost all of those present during the previous day were there, as well
as perhaps a hundred more, who had arrived during the early morning.
A gong was sounded by an attendant, to call attention to the white robed
one seated at the boulder’s crest. Today
as before on many previous occasions, the Adept spoke of spiritual living and
its necessity, but this time he was accompanied by his two primary disciples as
well.
They stood in a triangle, all three facing east,
intoning together certain syllables of words contained in scriptural texts, with
arms raised overhead, and hands clasped together.
After some minutes of this the three then grew silent, bringing their
arms down, and then extending them forward with palms facing out, fingers
pointing skyward. This they did in
unison even with closed eyes, and it seemed to the seeker who had placed himself
in the same spot as yesterday, that these men had a silent rapport whose depth
was beyond the spoken word.
Waves
of feeling washed through the dusty and sun baked crowd, as though they stood
directly underneath an invisible waterfall of delight.
It refreshed and revived them to the point where most of those who were
seated stood, and many gave involuntary shouts like cries of victory in battle.
The seeker, leaning on the rocks below, felt currents of Energy leading
up through his feet from the Earth, and then passing out through his hands which
rested upon them. He had felt such
Energy from the Earth before, but never to this degree, nor with this feeling of
sweetness. Even the Adept's
demonstration the day before was not equal to this experience.
Part 4
The seeker felt compelled to look upward at the
three, and suddenly beheld a vision. Quite
unexpectedly, the visual perspective he now held was like that of a bird
circling above. An overview of the
boulders and clearing in which they stood appeared in his mind, from what
appeared to be at least a mile above. This vision revealed a whitish, hazy,
fog-like vapor superimposed over the terrain, extending from the boulders for
many miles in all directions. He
knew that there was no natural fog at this time of day, and marveling at this,
heard a soundless voice which said, "What you see before you is an
extension of the Energies of the Three below.
This is but one way to work with the Energy and Awareness of the
Earth". The seeker, vaguely
understanding this, then thought of another question in reply. "What then
are they doing with this Energy and Awareness?" he asked.
The voice replied, "The Consciousness of humankind, is the same
Consciousness as that of the Earth itself.
Just as one may transform the inner personal realm at will,
so too can influence be rendered upon the outer realm, which are
One".
The perspective of the vision shifted then, to 100
feet above the boulders below, looking down upon the three administering their
Way, from a natural platform of stone. From
this view the seeker saw the Adept standing at the center of adjoining boulders
with hands clasped together at the heart. Two
disciples slowly circled him at their perimeter, with palms extended to the
people below. Then the seeker’s
vision shifted again to a place high above, where the whitish fog was
visible. The voice spoke
again saying, "You are seeing two different planes of existence at once,
each one equally real". "Who
speaks thus?" asked the seeker. The
voice replied, "I am that which has always spoken to you thus, though you
do not often take notice. I am your
own soul, and you may also hear me through your entire body without words".
So I see, thought the seeker. Focusing
again on his vision, the seeker noticed that the whitish vapor actually traveled
directly through the body of the Adept, particularly via his heart and forehead,
in a rapidly moving stream from the environment.
The fog seemed to rise up from the ground from all directions blowing
through the Adept like smoke in a windy tunnel.
As it flowed through the Adept, it went directly to his two disciples,
who themselves were also drawing this Earth Energy into their bodies, channeling
it outward through the palms as they circled and turned. Earth Energy passed out
through the two disciples, washing over the crowd in a torrent.
It streamed right through their bodies, and settled into the grassy
clearing upon which they stood.
Then without notice, there began an inner buzzing
within the body of the seeker, similar to the low droning of many bees in
unison. A popping sound like the
bursting of a bubble ended the vision. The
seeker’s attention was now again firmly seated in his body. The same feeling of a current of Energy passed through him as
before, while leaning on gray rocks. Now
however, he could also experience to some degree the feeling of Energy passing
through the bodies of those in the surrounding area.
It was as though all the bodies present were his to experience, not just
his own. This experience was
yet another reminder of the true communality of all people as embodied souls.
This experience was not entirely new to the seeker, yet its intensity
surprised him never the less.
The demonstration lasted another thirty minutes or
so, and ended just as many were
lying down to sleep. Their capacity
for absorbing this experience was apparently spent.
A gong sounded again, drawing the attention of many to the natural
platform above. Seated now on a
ledge to the north, the Adept was flanked on each side by disciples.
Noticing this, those on other sides of the rocks moved to the northern
face, to see and hear the coming message.
Many in the throng were prostrating themselves in the
traditional manner, lying prone on
the ground with heads pointing directly to the Adept.
More and more were thus showing their respect for him, awestruck by their
experience. Many spoke of miracles and supernatural wonders in hushed
whispers, until the Adept raised his hand in a gesture requesting silence.
All excited murmurs then abruptly ceased, and the Adept addressed the
uninitiated in this manner;
"Worthy seekers, what you have witnessed today
is much the same manifestation of the Laws of Nature, as it has been in days
past. Remember that universal Truth
and its principles are truly impartial, and thus they retain their universality.
What is true of one time and place of spiritual reality, is eternally
consistent with all other times and places.
Understand then, that any person may employ these laws with their right
realization equally. The
demonstration of these Truths, is not therefore a display of any special ability
of those you see before you. As
with any spiritual action, such effects are the result of much inner work.
That work leads gradually to self realization on successively higher
plateaus.
The true self is that of Consciousness. Consciousness
the all-pervading, is unlimited in its scope and ultimate capability.
Think not that what you have witnessed here today is a miracle of any
kind, for this is not so. Think not
that what you have witnessed is anything supernatural, for in Truth there is
nothing which surpasses the scope of the Natural, only our ideas of it.
Understand this, and bow not before this humble vessel of God, who seeks
the enlightenment of all people alike. Arise
from the Earth and be seated, so that you may comfortably listen without
distraction. Many eyes looked up in
question, as though they had not understood correctly, but the Adept gestured
with his hands in affirmation. After
all were seated normally the Adept began again;
"My associates and I have journeyed far to
deliver this message to you, most worthy aspirants.
We will travel much further yet over this land to deliver it to others.
This message is for all who live without exception, for Truth draws no
distinction between peoples, regardless of their position in the society of man.
In the eyes of God, we are all One, and of One Essence.
Those positions we take in daily life are but opportunities for lessons
learned by the true self; the indwelling soul.
As it was before birth, as it is now, so too will it be after our
physical death, in that our true identity as souls goes on incarnation after
incarnation. We take these material
forms so as to learn the same universal lessons together.
In so doing we realize the real nature of self and existence as one, and
thus reach a point where further physical incarnation is for the most part
unnecessary.
As conscious beings, as Consciousness itself in fact,
we are eventually released from the self imposed sufferings in life, through
realizations of its underlying Truth. Know that although many suffer in life, life itself is actually not an arena of suffering.
What makes us suffer is our own reluctance to apply the universal lessons
of Truth learned in life, in a way that takes real responsibility for them.
This is the only real difference between those who apparently possess
unusual spiritual abilities, and those who apparently do not.
It is not that they possess unusual abilities, it is simply that they
have personally taken a greater degree of responsibility for the Truth, moment
by moment, than has the average person. Thus
do I enjoin you to embody these teachings, and others of a like nature in
whatever form they may come. Realize the important necessity for such
responsibility. Real understanding
is based on moment to moment action as a continuous lifestyle, not out of
convenience, and so is lasting bliss".
The Adept went silent for a moment, looking out among
many focused faces. He scanned them
as though looking for indications of what should next be presented.
A few clouds passing overhead gave relief from the heat, as did a light
southern breeze. The Adept
continued by saying; "It is
our own thoughts which create the chains that bind us.
No other force in the universe can render as much limitation upon the
glory of what it is to be human. It
is our own thoughts which deceive, for they are the creators of maya, or
illusion in the world. Thoughts in
the human mind are as a small scale form of the thoughts of God for they,
to a lesser degree, create just as God creates.
The wise do not consider thought to be a trivial thing, for they know
what effects it can render. They
know that the repeated focus of thought, is
what most often manifests in daily affairs.
Thoughts, and the force behind them which is Consciousness, are the
implements by which our lives are self-shaped.
Let us use these tools sparingly and wisely.
What you have felt today is the combined effects of
many minds, not just the three you see here”, said the Adept, as he motioned
to himself and the two disciples. “Your
experience has been a combination of the joined focus of the consciousness of
myself and my two students here, the intelligence of the Earth which surrounds
us, and also the consciousness which you as souls possess.
All of you have contributed to some degree to today's demonstration.
In your earnest focus upon it and through a confidence in spiritual
practice, you also took part in the creation of this afternoon.
I say creation because Consciousness creates. What it wills to come about, becomes manifest.
Lasting manifestations, ones which do real benefit,
are those which are in accord with Natural Law, or in other words the
Will of God. What these three before you have done today, is merely
emphasize certain aspects of the Laws of Nature by focusing on them with the
right Intention. Thus they were
more intensely activated, with the result being a greater movement of Earth
Energy, and Intent, which even now circulates between us. My associates will now explain some of the workings of
today's creation".
The Adept then touched the right shoulder of the
disciple to his left, silently indicating to him what to say next, by motioning
to his forehead, throat and heart in turn, and then gesturing outward to the
encircling crowd. The disciple
nodded understanding, and stood up saying; "As my Master has instructed me
regarding the various Energy centers of the body, I will now briefly convey to
you. This I do in an attempt to
explain in part today's experiences".
The disciple then turned back to the Adept for a moment, and seeing a nod
of approval continued. "Although
certain teachings speak of the Energy centers of the body known as the chakras,
being of a differing number than does our lineage, we acknowledge them as being
seven in number. These seven
chakras are centered upon the spine, one after another from the tailbone to the
crown of the head. They correspond
to the various organs of the body, conveying nerve force or Energy, to each
physical system. This Energy is
readily perceptible to those who practice inner Awareness. It vitalizes the entire body, particularly the brain and
spine which are its major carriers. The
chakras though, are not of the physical body alone. They also belong to the other bodies of man, which are of a
more subtle nature than the physical. This
makes the chakras gateways to other planes of existence, which coexist with the
one you are currently focused on at present", the disciple said, with arms
raised, gesturing to the clearing in which they stood.
"Recognizing the Truth that there are other realms which exist
besides the material world, is a good beginning for understanding the ways in
which the chakras function. As human beings, we
exist on more than one plane at a time. Our
chakras provide clear channels to these other realms, so that we may act upon
them as well, if we so choose. This
means we have the capability to channel through to this dense material world
Energies of a subtle nature, the effects of which can be experienced by the
self, and others as well. The
chakras provide unity with the oceans of Consciousness surrounding us, for they
too are of Consciousness. They
provide connections also to other minds and places, for Consciousness knows no
bounds. Consciousness the
all-pervading, likewise composes
the Earth itself, as my Master has often said”.
Part 5
The
disciple continued his explanation by saying, "To work with the
Intelligence of the Earth, is one of the greatest benefits of the knowledge of
Consciousness which one may acquire. A
very large portion of the spiritual work accomplished here today was not of our
doing, but was in fact the result of Earth Consciousness.
With focused minds of like Intention, did we visualize the drawing in and
channeling of the Energy and Awareness of the Earth, for the benefit of all
present. Thus with the help of the
Earth and the principles which govern visualization, did we Intend into place the effects perceived today.
Such manifestations are in accord with the Intent of the Earth and of
God". This disciple turned
again to his teacher, and received an impression of both "well done, and
that is sufficient", and returned to a seated position.
The Adept then touched the left shoulder of the
disciple to his right, while whispering something in his ear for several
minutes. This disciple nodded
slightly, and stood to speak saying; "As
my fellow student and most worthy teacher have attested, the Consciousness we
all possess is of three elements, which are Energy, Awareness, and Will or
Intent, as it may be called. In the
connectedness of Consciousness which the chakras enhance, the inwardly observant
person will notice that the effects we have upon one another are continuous.
Likewise are the effects of the ocean of Consciousness which is the
Earth, invariably influencing every moment of life.
The Earth too, which is itself an island in the ocean of God, is
constantly influenced by the forces of Consciousness that reside in the far
reaches of the universe”.
“Part of what makes this connection with each of us
possible is Energy itself, passing through the chakras as explained. Another
element of Consciousness which makes this possible is Awareness, which guides
Energy into various channels and manifestations.
Awareness is the maker of patterns and pathways through which Energy, the
basic building block of universal designs, is given form.
In harnessing Awareness as conscious beings, we may focus in such a way
as to cause Energy to enter us in great quantities, for our own benefit or for
the benefit of others. Some direct
this Energy or prana for healing, others to enhance their own spiritual
progress. Others still use it to
render positive influences on our world as a whole.
To some degree, all people use Energy and Awareness for various purposes
in all things, and at every moment. We
cannot avoid doing this, since we are those elements of Consciousness at
the most fundamental level of our being. Thus
the majority of people unconsciously employ the elements of consciousness to
perform their daily affairs, without ever realizing the nature and scope of
their importance.
By focusing Awareness on any idea, visualized image
or feeling as a sustained focus, one may create results as have been witnessed
here today. When focused personal
Awareness draws in Energy from the environment, it may then be channeled outward
and used for whatever purpose the channeler so wishes.
This is true so long as their Intention is in accord with Nature.
So it is that spiritual action is not of a mystical character. It is in fact a practical application of Natural Laws,
representing an ability refined by practice and self realization.
At a signal from his Master, this disciple also
slowly seated himself. The Adept
then concluded the discourse by adding; "Of
these two elements of Consciousness known as Energy and Awareness thus far
described, there is yet another aspect of the self and existence.
This is the one responsible for initiating all the manifestations of the
universe. We have referred to this
aspect as Will or Intent, which is a quality of existence possessed by all
things, including the human being.
All three of the elements of Consciousness are each
masterable to greater and greater degrees, by those who cultivate them as an
inner focus. By accepting greater
responsibility for what the true self is, one gains both a knowledge of the
purposes of God, and also certain abilities which in the society of man are
generally unrecognized. One of
those abilities is the transmission, or channeling of surrounding Awareness and
Energy, for the benefit of others as you have seen.
Energy, focused by Awareness via the chakras, can render effects both
inside and outside the body. Such
effects can aid the very progress of mankind, when properly directed.
The degree of experiential understanding of these elements of the true
self and their wise application, determines the scope of an individual’s
ability to manifest spiritual influence.
In all activities of Consciousness, even in the
simplest of acts such as walking, it is Intent which ultimately guides every
personal action. Regardless of the
type of practice one may engage in, be it one which employs visualization,
faith, concentration, inspiration, ritual, or group focus, all results gained in
material and the spiritual realms are a reflection of the action taken by
Intent. A study of any of the
elements of Consciousness, from Energy direction, to the shifting of Awareness,
to the purification of Intent, all enhance self mastery, for these are the basis
of the true self. Thus all of the
lectures and demonstrations you have received here, could in essence be said to
be of one basic topic only, and that is self mastery, via self knowledge.
As we all learn more about the nature of our inner realms, so too do we
learn an equivalent amount of valuable knowledge, regarding the nature of the
universe in general. Our will or Intent to progress we find, is a reflection of
the Divine Will to progress; to grow and expand as conscious beings.
In looking within, we also find that the patterns of
personal and collective history, the paths
taken up to the present, as well as those which will be taken in the
future, are all determined by how we handle this inner essence.
It is in our right use of Consciousness which has and shall determine our
fate. We must ultimately understand our true nature and make best
use of it in accord with the Will of God. If
we fail in this task, we will then destroy ourselves with these very potentials
misused.
As we realize and employ the most appropriate
Intentions which are of God, our lives are set in motion according to universal
designs. To seek this process of
self transformation, is to seek enlightenment.
As each of us becomes more enlightened, we are gradually compelled by God
to teach others, so that they too may carry the illuminating torch of Truth,
kept blazing by self realization through the night of ignorance.
Think you on these things, I enjoin you, for they are of the utmost
importance in living, as well as the ultimate understanding of existence itself.
We encourage you to learn well of the Truth which
Consciousness encompasses. This
you may do through meditation, prayer, experimentation and careful, moment to
moment observation. Never take any
teacher’s word alone to be the absolute Truth, nor that of any scripture,
without a personal application of those points of which they speak.
It is good to have faith in the various aspects of Truth and its
advocates, but it is equally good to gain clarity as to their reality through
personal experience. Only through
personal experience does the speaker of a message, become also a practitioner of
practical wisdom. No teacher or
book may give you the experience of God or Truth in such a way that you embody
knowledge. To actually embody Truth
and to render real spiritual aid to others, one must practice it moment to
moment throughout every day, as the basis of living.
The more you do this the more benefits will you reap as enlightened
beings. Thus I enjoin you to know
yourselves as Consciousness in every moment of
every day. I encourage you
to employ Intent, Awareness, and Energy at all times, and in accord with the
Will of God and Nature. May your
journey be successful, and of full realization".
Thus the final lecture in a week-long stay, of the
pilgrim known as the Adept came to a close in a secluded grove.
That night was spent in relative silence, a quiet resolve which was truly
extraordinary for such a large group of people.
The seeker thought to himself that night, that indeed the Adept’s
message had made a lasting impact on a large number today.
He wondered how many would in fact, "take responsibility for the
Truth" from now on.
The seeker had also come to his own inner resolve
this day. He planned to seek out in
meditation and prayer, the full nature of the Truth with only the advice of his
own soul. The Master of
Masters would be his guide. Feeling
an obligation to speak of this to the Adept, he approached the great circular
tent at a rather late hour.
Gladdened to see a lamp light still burning within, the seeker rang a
small bell set near the doorway as a means to request entry.
The flaps of the tent opened promptly, revealing a smiling Adept who
urged that they speak softly, so as not to disturb his two sleeping students
within. The seeker,
greatly pleased at this opportunity, entered saying that he had come to
speak of matters such as those of their discussion on the previous evening.
The seeker, with all warmth of reverence said,
"Great one, I must first ask pardon for my late appearance here this
evening, and also for the thing I am about to say. It is most difficult".
The Adept replied, "First of all my friend, do not think this late
hour any imposition. Those with
real need or burning desire are always welcome.
As for the matter of importance of which you wish to speak, I sense that
it concerns the becoming of a student in my traveling camp, is this not
so?" "Indeed it is so,
One who Sees", replied the seeker, "and difficult it is for me to say,
despite my earnest words the previous evening,
regarding my desire to apprentice under your high teachings. I find that
I must seek my own enlightenment for now, to the point where I may be of
significant service to others". The seeker went on to describe his vision during the days'
discourse in detail, and that such revelations were the cause of this change of
heart. "I know now what I must
do", he said, "because to continue this spiritual quest, I must refine
myself in greater self Awareness through the advice of my own soul, so as to See
the depth that is God in all creation. I know now that this is my only best course, since as you
say, realization and responsibility are the sole products of individual effort.
I must apologize for my unpredictability Great one”, said the seeker,
with bowed head and clasped hands.
"Worthy seeker, do not think it an impropriety
on your part to journey into meditational repose thus", said a grinning
Adept. "I am in fact most
pleased that you have made the right decision, and have followed the advice of
the wise. Truly, your decision is
one made with right understanding. One
of your dedication and inner focus should indeed rely on their own council, to
become a Master in their own right. I say this to you in part because of the wisdom you have
shown in asking the right questions, and because of the dedication evident in
your own spiritual practice. I also
say this because the vision you beheld today was in Truth accurate.
You witnessed events as they occurred on both the physical and subtle
realms. Value this vision, for
within it are held many Truths, and keys to Truths.
You have done well to regard this vision seriously, especially with
regard to listening to the advice of your own soul.
It is because of all of these aspects of my interaction with you these
last few days, that I know your decision to be the correct one.
My blessings go with you into the solitude of realization which shall be
yours". The seeker with tears
in his eyes, looked into those of the Adepts with all the love of a brother and
devoted pupil in one, and could say only, "You are most gracious and
wise". Embracing each other in
silent farewell, the seeker then left the tent to find his own grassy bed.
He now held the certainty that some day he would return to assist the
Adept, with the real capability of deep self realization.
What motivates us toward Mastery?
The
great Prophets and Masters of all ages have been, it is said, "the
speakers of God”. Through the relentless exploration of truth and
personal practice, they have made themselves a vehicle for the higher
expression of Universal Intelligence.
Their wise teachings have demonstrated right living,
making spiritual concepts more accessible to humanity. Such
agents of the Divine Message have repeatedly walked among us, with the
deeply felt inspiration to help their fellow kind. It might be asked;
What exactly would prompt a person to become a Divine Agent, to
be a Mohammed, or a Christ, or a Buddha?
What burning desire must enter a human mind, regardless of the
age of history or circumstance, to become a Lao Tzu,
a Dalai Lama, or a
Pythagoras? The more deeply one looks within, the more the answers to
such questions are made startlingly clear.
In all ages the great Masters have provided wisdom of profound
similarity. The Oneness of
the human spirit within a universal medium, (God/the unified field) is a
central facet of their teachings. Spiritual visionaries have often inculcated universal principles at great personal cost, to deliver messages
that were usually considered revolutionary, radical or even blasphemous
by the contemporary mindset. In
revealing the universal, these “Bearers of Light” often suffered
condemnation as heretics, social outcasts or political undesirables.
Despite much persecution however, the most noble of historical
and modern Teachers, inculcate(d) right living and spiritual action
equally to all. They have
urged humanity to recognize its important role, in the shaping of the
inner and outer worlds with spiritual responsibility.
The message of spiritual wisdom has always been, "You too
can do as I", to know God, to perform the "miraculous",
and to find fulfillment in universal Truth.
It is perhaps the mark of every great Master whose expectation it
is, that each student attain a level of self realization equal to, or
greater than their own.
What these great souls realized is the eternal basis of life.
Each advocated right action in unique ways, yet by means of the
same underlying principles. Following
a certain degree of self realization, the eternal principles of Truth
are perceived, inspiring the Seer to step forward out of the darkness of
the collective despair in any age of history.
The Master is inspired to kindle in courageous seekers, a similar
blaze of inner understanding. Dedicated
meditation, prayer and deep perception into the meaning of life, have
always motivated the self-realized individual toward spiritual ministry.
Thus, when the truth is known it compels the knower to teach, so
that others may share its unparalleled benefits.
The innermost knowledge of self in the Master, becomes also the
knowledge of the hearts, souls and minds of all human beings.
In fact, it becomes deep understanding of the universe at a core
level of existence, one that recognizes the unity of humankind with
itself and all of Nature. Through Truth-inspired love and clarity,
combined with the desire to uplift all of humanity as one unified,
planetary being, the great Masters of all time have advocate(d) right
living. They
did this because they knew they must, for the Truth in
its vast implications, demands to be brought forth into the world.
Truth, God and soul speak to the Seer, of the urgency in setting
humanity once again on the right path of natural design, and away from
the self destruction of the centuries. The true Teacher, is
one who understands the necessity of the implementation of Divine love,
unbiased clarity, and practical spirituality in daily living. The Master Sees the world as it is, and also how it could be
given the right Intent of the people.
To Them the adoption of truthful living, entails much more than
mere social improvements or the better relations among nations. Truth
goes far beyond this. The full extent of the application of Natural Law
is one of survival or extinction for our kind, not just the success of a
people or a nation. Truth lived fully,
brings with it a complete transformation of the arbitrariness of
personality. It evokes a
personal state that is the embodiment of Divine Will.
The Masters of all ages have known that the embodiment of Truth
in individuals and in society is no small matter.
It is an act with Cosmic significance, undertaken through the
betterment of all, for the sake of planetary evolution.
The experiential meaning of Truth is far more than the spiritual
aspirant usually dares to hope for. Upon realizing the greater scope of
self and society as consciousness,
the seeker dedicates themselves to the pursuit of Truth
alone as a lifestyle. When
this decision is made and lived by, the seeker aspires to the unlimited
self-potential made possible through inner work.
Dedicated outer work in the form of spiritual ministry, then
begins to take root in the life of the practitioner.
The primary goal at this stage of personal realization, is that
of self purification and right action,
so that the reality of the true self, (soul/consciousness) may be
more fully embodied. This
path when diligently followed, then becomes an occasionally, though
deeply felt need to teach others about The
Path. After some time, the aspirant-turned-Adept finds rewards in
their personal practice so compelling, that they feel the undeniable
urge to share them with all people as a continuous life focus. They recognize that the consciousness within, is the same as
the consciousness in others and in all of nature.
Thus connection and unified action are unavoidable.
It is then that spiritual ministry in ones’ life takes a first
priority over all other motivations.
Spiritual gain for oneself is also found through the gains made
by all people. The
expansion of consciousness is a universal process, and it must
ultimately be treated as such. Personal
spiritual practice must therefore ultimately include the cause of world
enlightenment as well. Self
realization creates the implicit and strong desire to help others do the
same, just when the concepts of “inner” and “outer” are losing
their meaning. The
sheer joy and insightfulness of inner growth, highly motivates the
practitioner to share it with any who will listen.
It is the nature of joy, clarity and love to multiply themselves.
It similarly becomes the nature of those who enter such states,
to fervently advocate the means to attain them.
The Intent of this
intelligent universe in which we live, is to form the most evolutionary
bodies, minds and souls. As
we pursue greater personal enlightenment, we are also fulfilling
universal goals. This means
that the attainment of greater self mastery is more than just a personal
practice. It is actually a global process, which has motivated evolution
since before the beginnings of Earthly life.
It is the Intent of God/Nature that evolution take place, in as
many beings as possible, and to as high a degree as possible.
Meditation reveals that the essence of evolution is found in the
expansion of consciousness, and that we are all as cells within a
greater body of Intent, Awareness and Energy.
Self realization is in fact the realization of consciousness,
which is in turn of benefit to all things in their inter-connectedness.
Even That which is called God gains benefit from this process.
It is worth realizing that it is not the adherence to given
techniques, nor the blind following of institutional procedures, which
brings about self mastery. It
is not the application to the dogma of any given age, or to specific
social concepts. Even years
of meditational practice or prayer do not necessarily result in
enlightenment. Spiritual
attainment is a very personal process to a large degree, because beyond
all technique and practice, it is the Intent
of the practitioner which brings Mastery about.
The Intent to achieve
Mastery, or for that
matter progressive spiritual Intent in general, is what brings about
rapture in the Supreme. It
is through personal Intent that the underlying cause behind all material
existence is perceived. It
is only through such Intent, through a real motivation toward Truth
found in daily action, which results in great inner
transformation. This
process feeds the fire of the soul, that is itself a reflection of
God. When the individual realizes that a lifestyle based on
material things alone can never fulfill them, they have taken one of the
major steps toward spiritual progress.
The progressive understanding of cosmic order and one’s current
relationship with that order, brings satisfaction for which there is no
substitute. The embodiment
of universal knowledge is so fulfilling that it causes those who achieve
it to deliver the message of Truth to the world.
Self knowledge brings about the realization that the world would
be completely transformed by embracing consciousness as its guiding
motivation. This the Master understands, and so must we in order to save
our species from the brink of its own self-destruction.
